KG Westman

K.G. Westman is a Swedish sitar player who is one of Europe´s foremost in the field of north Indian classical and semi classical music. Due to training in both Indian and western music, he is one of few with a deep understanding of both systems.
Each winter K.G. stays in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India to continue training under the guidence of Pandit Rabindra Narayan Goswami, a most respected sitar master of the holy city. As a senior student of Goswamiji, he is now a frequent performer in Europe, India, as well as the rest of the world. He also teaches sitar and about the classical music of north india.
The interest in Indian music began when his father moved to Kerala in 1996. After a few visits to India and attempts to play the south Indian veena, he finally decided to pick up the sitar after seeing Nishat Khan perform in Stockholm. Already an accomplished guitar player and recording artist, he started to learn the basics of sitar technique, raag and taal in 2004 from Stian Grimstad. In 2005 K.G. went to Varanasi for the first time and took lessons from Anil Singh of Dharmsala that year. After that he was accepted as a student of Goswamiji and has since then returned every year for learning new raagas and to deepen the understanding of the art.
